1.Process description of phosphoric acid
Phosphoric acid, also known as orthophosphoric acid, is a common inorganic acid with the chemical formula H3PO4 and a molecular weight of approximately 97.994. It is a tribasic medium-strength acid, has general acidic properties, and is not easily volatile, decomposed, or oxidized. Phosphoric acid has a wide range of applications in agriculture, industry, and the food industry.
Phosphoric acid is typically produced through either the wet process or the thermal process. The former one is the most implemented technology for phosphoric acid production.
The whole process include of phosphate rock digestion, gypsum separation, purification and concentration. The phosphate rock is mixed with sulfuric acid to produce phosphoric acid and gypsum. After digestion, the gypsum is separated from the phosphoric acid solution. The phosphoric acid solution undergoes purification steps to remove impurities. The purified phosphoric acid is concentrated to the desired strength.
A common purification methods for phosphoric acid is liquid-liquid extraction, which involves the separation of phosphoric acids from water and other impurities using organic solvents, such as tributyl phosphate (TBP), methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), or n-octanol. Nanofiltration involves the use of a pre-modified nanofiltration membrane, which is functionalized by a deposit of a high molecular weight polycationic polymer of polyethyleneimines. Nanofiltration has been shown to significantly reduce the concentrations of various impurities, including cadmium, aluminum, iron, and rare earth elements.
