Sodium Silicate plant from rice husk ash
Sodium silicate introduction
Sodium silicate, is an inorganic substance and is a soluble inorganic silicate with a wide range of applications. Its aqueous solution is commonly referred to as water glass which is a mineral binder. Its chemical formula is Na2O·nSiO2.
Based on the physical states, there are two kinds of sodium silicate: liquid sodium silicate and solid sodium silicate.
1.Solid sodium silicate

2.Liquid sodium silicate

3.Sodium Silicate application
- The most valuable filler in the soap industry. Adding sodium silicate to laundry soap can buffer its alkalinity, reduce its loss in water, enhance its washing ability, and prevent soap spoilage.
- plays the role of washing aid, anti-corrosion and stabilizing foam in synthetic detergent.
- filler for papermaking
- produce silicon gel and silica gel
- Used as a binder in the foundry industry, bonding sand and clay to produce various molds and core
- When the water glass is coated on the metal surface, the alkali metal silicate and SiO2 gel film will be formed, which will protect the metal from external acid, alkali, etc.
- Used as a bonding agent to bond glass, ceramics, asbestos, wood, plywood, etc.
- Used for manufacturing refractory materials, white carbon black, and acid resistant cement.
- Used as a pulp and impregnating agent in the textile industry, as a fixative and mordant in textile dyeing and embossing, and as a weighting agent for silk fabrics.
- Adding water glass in leather production, its dispersed colloidal SiO2 is used to produce soft leather.
- In the food industry, it can be used to preserve eggs and prevent microorganisms from entering the gaps of the eggshell and causing spoilage.
- In the sugar industry, water glass can remove pigments and tree lipids from sugar solution
4.Production process
Rice husk ash reacts with liquid caustic soda to produce sodium silicate. The separated sodium silicate is concentrated to get the finished liquid sodium silicate. The separated rice husk carbon can be reacted with hydrochloric acid to produce activated carbon.
Reaction: SiO2 (ASH) + 2 NaOH = Na2SiO3 + H2O
